POINTS UPDATE: Pierce Moves to Second, Gustin Jumps to Fourth

Latest Points Update After Atomic

Keep up with the latest changes in the 2024 World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Model Series Championship chase.

LATEST RACE(S): Atomic Speedway (Aug. 23-24)

CURRENT POINTS LEADER: Brandon Sheppard continues his reign over Bobby Pierce and Nick Hoffman by 54 points with seven races remaining in the 2024 season. The New Berlin, IL driver finished sixth on Friday after starting the Feature in 16th, then took home a seventh-place result on Saturday after starting on the front row. While the driver of the No. B5 Longhorn Factory Team Late Model has a steady lead, “B-Shepp” needs to stay within an average of four positions of both Pierce and Hoffman each race if he’s going to become the all-time Series champion.

MAKING MOVES:

Ryan Gustin (+2): Finishing third on Friday and a dominating win on Saturday night helped the Marshalltown, IA driver leapfrog around Kyle Bronson and Cade Dillard to fourth in the Series points standings. “The Reaper” has had a career-best year with the World of Outlaws CASE Late Models, with the most wins (four), laps led (103), top fives (18), and top-10 (24) finishes in a season.

Bobby Pierce (+1): Atomic Speedway was a pivotal weekend for the Oakwood, IL driver in his case for a second consecutive Series title. The “Smooth Operator” led every lap on Friday for his 30th career World of Outlaws Feature win, then played second fiddle to Gustin on Saturday to tie with Nick Hoffman in points. Pierce secured the tiebreaker with the podium result compared to Hoffman’s fourth-place result in the Fireball 50

Nick Hoffman (-1): Hoffman had a consistent top-five run to secure a fourth-place result on Friday, but Saturday saw him mount a charge from the Last Chance Showdown to finish fourth once more on Saturday night to get the Fox Factory Hard Charger award. He’s tied with Pierce in the points but lost second place in the Series standings as he returns to his Mooresville, NC shop in preparation for the final set of events.

Cade Dillard (-2): Dillard’s unfortunate events at Atomic plagued the Robeline, LA driver from retaining fourth place in the standings. Contact sustained with Tyler Erb on Friday forced him to retire the car with 10 laps remaining. On Saturday, a collision with Dennis Erb Jr caused damage to his right-rear quarter panel as “The Thriller” finished with a DNF. He dropped to sixth place in the Series standings – 64 points back from Gustin in fourth and 38 points back from Bronson in fifth.

CLOSING THE GAP:

Brian Shirley (7th): Continuing his upended second half of the 2024 season with a twin set of podiums at Atomic, the racer out of Chatham, IL sliced a 76-point gap to sixth place to a mere 18 points entering the fourth quarter of the season. Shirley ran second to Pierce on Friday, then finished third on Saturday by keeping his No .3S Bob Cullen Racing Late Model clean of damage amid the carnage inside the top five.
