POINTS UPDATE: Macedo’s Not Done, Kofoid Sweeps

Latest points update after Bakersfield and Merced

Keep up with the chase for the 2024 World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car championship.

LATEST RACES: Bakersfield Speedway (Sept. 13), Merced Speedway (Sept. 14)

CURRENT POINTS LEADER: The second weekend of the Californian swing began with a third consecutive fifth-place finish for David Gravel and the Big Game Motorsports crew. The next night at Merced offered some obstacles as Gravel finished 13th, his first result outside the top 10 in a standard points race since May 25 at Atomic. Gravel still holds the point lead as he chases his first title.

CLOSING THE GAP:

Carson Macedo (2nd): As the home stretch of 2024 continues Carson Macedo is refusing to go down without a fight. The Lemoore, CA native has put the Jason Johnson Racing No. 41 on the podium in eight of the last 11 races including five wins. Macedo slashed 24 markers off Gravel’s point lead over the weekend, knocking it down to 86.

Giovanni Scelzi (4th): Bakersfield gave Giovanni Scelzi the boost of a runner-up finish, and he followed that with a charge from 14th to eighth the following night. With some struggles for Donny Schatz, the gap between Scelzi and the 10-time champion shrank from triple digits to 96 points.

Michael Kofoid (5th): While Scelzi might’ve gained ground on Schatz, he’s got Michael “Buddy” Kofoid quickly closing in on him. Kofoid swept the weekend to make it four victories in the last five races with Roth Motorsports. He sits now only six points behind his fellow Californian for the fourth position.

Logan Schuchart (7th): A fourth-place run on Friday gave Logan Schuchart his first top-five finish since the first night at Jackson in mid-August. He backed it up with a top 10 the next night aboard the Shark Racing No. 1S to close within two points of Sheldon Haudenschild for sixth.
