POINTS UPDATE: Multiple Battles, Potential Rookie Record Set Stage for World Finals

Latest points update after Riverside

Keep up with the chase for the 2024 World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car championship.

LATEST RACES: Riverside International Speedway (Oct. 25).

THE CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE: A new champion is primed to stand atop the sport when the World of Outlaws World Finals conclude the 2024 campaign next week. David Gravel and Big Game Motorsports will enter the season’s final three nights of racing with a 74-point advantage over Carson Macedo and Jason Johnson Racing. Gravel has finished second in each of the last three seasons while Macedo has been right behind him in third.

ROOKIE RECORD: Michael “Buddy” Kofoid has history within his grasp rolling into The Dirt Track at Charlotte. The Roth Motorsports pilot is currently fourth in points, which would equal the record for the highest finishing Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year. Three other competitors have reached the mark (Jeff Swindell in 1981, Brad Doty in 1982, and Giovanni Scelzi in 2023). With an impressive seven wins, 25 podiums, and 6.84 average finish for Kofoid, equaling the record would be a fitting conclusion to the campaign.

FIGHT FOR FIFTH: Right behind Kofoid is a three-car battle for a spot in the top five. Last year’s Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year, Giovanni Scelzi, currently holds the spot with his KCP Racing crew. Trailing Scelzi by 38 points is Sheldon Haudenschild and Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall Racing (in sixth), and another 38 points behind him is Logan Schuchart and the Shark Racing team (in seventh). There’s a more than $5,000 payout difference between seventh and fifth in the standings.
